Often people begin by building games like WhackAMole or games that let you draw funny pictures on your friend’s faces. You can even make use of the phone’s sensors to move a ball through a maze based on tilting the phone.

But app building is not limited to simple games. You can also build apps that inform and educate. You can create a quiz app to help you and your classmates study for a test. With Android’s text-to-speech capabilities, you can even have the phone ask the questions aloud.

To use App Inventor, you do not need to be a developer. App Inventor requires NO programming knowledge. This is because instead of writing code, you visually design the way the app looks and use blocks to specify the app’s behavior.

more here
Mon, 12 Jul 2010 10:32:31 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/64987773/App-Inventor-for-Google-Androidurn:www-soup-io:1:64987773regularmobile Field Agent

Get paid for doing tasks while your out and about, like take a picture, get a price of some shoes in a retail store.

Tue, 06 Jul 2010 15:15:26 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/63914385/Field-Agenturn:www-soup-io:1:63914385regularmobileretail Tube Refund

This is a service that tells you which tubes are delayed so you can gather the information and make your claims. With a gadget this popular, every tiny flaw gets blown up to apocalyptic proportion. Most of those issues turn out to be only a minor issue, either fixed in the next round of manufacturing or forgotten about in a few weeks.
BUT, this is kinda a major one in my view, if you hold your phone the wrong way it drops a call, what is the right or wrong way to hold your phone?

Apple responded in two ways today. A personal email to Steve Jobs resulted in a typically terse, utterly Jobsian response: “Just avoid holding it that way.” Apple also issued an official statement:

Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

See the full story and related on The Fast Company site
Fri, 25 Jun 2010 08:50:39 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/62018777/Is-the-iPhone-4-s-Reception-Killingurn:www-soup-io:1:62018777regularmobile MSKYNET - QRGen API (QR Code Generator API)
http://www.mskynet.com/static/QRGenAPI
Thu, 24 Jun 2010 11:01:09 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/62059384/MSKYNET-QRGen-API-QR-Code-Generator-APIurn:www-soup-io:1:62059384linkmobileapifreeqrcodesms QR Code Generator
http://zxing.appspot.com/generator/
Thu, 24 Jun 2010 10:56:32 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/62059385/QR-Code-Generatorurn:www-soup-io:1:62059385linkqrcodeqrcodemobilesms QR Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
QR Codes are common in Japan, where they are currently the most popular type of two dimensional codes. It could help solve the biggest problem with 3-D: the need for special glasses that deliver a separate image to each eye.

Flack’s software synthesizes 3-D scenes from existing 2-D video by estimating the depth of objects using various cues; a band of sky at the top of a frame probably belongs in the far background, for example. It then creates pairs of slightly different images that the viewer’s brain combines to produce the sensation of depth.

Samsung has licensed 3-D content generated by Dynamic Digital Depth for its latest 3-D phone, the W960, released in March. Research firm DisplaySearch recently predicted that by 2018 there will be 71 million such devices worldwide.

3D content can be found here on yabazam
Mon, 03 May 2010 07:42:09 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54891811/3D-Mobileurn:www-soup-io:1:54891811regularmobile PayPal Opens Up Mobile Payments To Developers
PayPal launching its Mobile Payments Library to select developers, the company today announced it’s opening its new platform up to the entire iPhone development community.

It seems like it’s been a long time coming, but PayPal’s new Mobile Payments Library is a quick and easy way to add checkout functionality for physical goods and services sold through apps on the iPhone, without having to worry about keeping customers’ personal financial information secure.

The company announced the platform will be available for other mobile OS platforms in the future, but is already boasting some unique iPhone apps that have already built-in PayPal’s new mobile payment technology.
Mon, 03 May 2010 07:19:08 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54891812/PayPal-Opens-Up-Mobile-Payments-To-Developersurn:www-soup-io:1:54891812regularmobile Weave
Sync your desktop browsing and your mobile using Mozilla Weave.
Found via @grigs

Weave iPhone Data Viewer from Mozilla Labs on Vimeo.

Wed, 28 Apr 2010 08:14:40 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54461574/Weaveurn:www-soup-io:1:54461574regularmobile CoolHunting iPad App

Cool Hunting / Cadillac iPad App from Steve Peck on Vimeo.

Mon, 26 Apr 2010 17:25:48 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54402921/CoolHunting-iPad-Appurn:www-soup-io:1:54402921regularmobile Android running on iPhone

Mon, 26 Apr 2010 17:17:20 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54402923/Android-running-on-iPhoneurn:www-soup-io:1:54402923regularmobile Top 10 Mobile Trends of 2010, Part 3: Emerging Markets
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/top_10_mobile_trends_of_2010_part_3_emerging_markets.php
Fri, 23 Apr 2010 07:15:44 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54081450/Top-10-Mobile-Trends-of-2010-Parturn:www-soup-io:1:54081450linkmobiletrends iPad + Retail = Nice Gap App.

The Gap created this app to showcase products , drive to sales and share content all from this lovely gestural interface.
More here on AdAge
Thu, 22 Apr 2010 13:11:20 GMThttp://soup.experiment.org.uk/post/54010002/iPad-Retail-Nice-Gap-Appurn:www-soup-io:1:54010002regularmobileretail Starling: new social TV platform to revolutionize TV viewing

Co-viewing on social media platform connects the audience to shows, sponsors and each other

MIPTV, Cannes, 13 April 2010 9:00 CET: Starling, a new social TV platform that connects TV audiences and integrates them with broadcast media, launches its first version today. Designed for mobile devices, tablet computers and the web, it provides viewers with a platform to chat, play, and interact – around a show, and with each other.

Starling builds on the emergent trend of “co-viewing,” which generates active social media chatter when fans of a show gather online. It connects fans with other fans of the show, and friends to what their friends are watching.
