The idea of gathering like minded people to talk lego nerdary is a great idea thou, just looking at some of the content already it shows that there are some die hard fans out there. visit ReBrick

quote from PSFK

Lego has launched a social media platform where fans aged 13 and above can upload their own creations and projects, share them, and comment on others they discover. ReBrick is designed to be a hub for all Lego-based works made by the Lego fan community.

Nice Social Experiment

Based on the popular custom here in north America of take a penny give a penny a guy called Jonathan Stark got a starbucks card and gave it to the social world, with the premise that people would spend his card and also add to it.

looking at the API which lets you know the balance it seemed to start off well but is sitting pretty at 0 balance at the moment, I hope it goes back up without Jonathan having to delve into his pocket again.

Check it out here.

Storenvy

Storenvy

Storenvy has been described as the Tumblr of e-commerce. The site allows anyone to set up an online presence that can sell almost anything to anyone – and for the moment it’s totally free. By giving away the tools to create an online marketplace, small independent stores can sell online as well as use the usual social outlets to promote their wares – think Twitter and Facebook.

Facebook extends Places to TV.

Facebook may extend its Facebook Places social location service to allow people to check-in to entertainment, says the social network’s VP EMEA Joanna Shields.

“Just like you could check-in to a location, theoretically you could check-in to a TV show that you’re watching,” she told the MIPCOM conference in Cannes this afternoon.

Meet up with friends spontaneously

Picture 6

Users of San Francisco-based Poig begin by signing up with the free service through Facebook Connect. From there, they can create and view “pings” with suggestions for something to do — grab a beer, for instance, or see a movie. Pings can be restricted to friends or shared with everyone on the site; they can also be broadcast via Facebook and Twitter. Pings are viewable by location as well, enabling users to look for ideas for something fun to do in their area. When a Poig user sees an idea they like, they can comment and indicate that they’ll join the activity.

Plancast – Social location planning.

Picture 5

Plancast — a service that lets you share future plans with friends, and view those from others — just got a whole lot more useful today. The company announced its API (application programming interface), which gives developers the ability to use Plancast’s data in their apps, reports the technology blog TechCrunch.

The service is best described as “Foursquare for the future.” Instead of telling people where you are, you can broadcast what you’re going to be doing at any given point in the future. It’s similar to a shared calendar, except it offers up a social graph like Twitter or Foursquare. You have the ability to follow people you’re interested in, and you can also lock down your profile to select readers. Not surprisingly, Plancast is looking to integrate with calendar services like Google Calendar. It also recently added the option to import events from Facebook.

SyncFu is a tiny widget for your web shop. It aggregates price concerned visitors in order to achieve mutual volume discounts on your offerings, all according to your own settings. It’s an incentive based system, and as everyone gets the last price after the deadline you set, all participants virally share your offers with their friends across social networks.

TfL opens its Data doors

Transport for London has announced that it’s lifting all restrictions on the commercial use of its data. The move could fuel an explosion in mobile apps that need access to the datasets, making them more attractive to developers who want to charge for their apps.

Currently, TfL offers up a selection of datasets, including live traffic cameras, Oyster card top-up locations, pier and station locations, cycle hire locations, and riverboat timetables. Some new data has been issued, including live tube travel info and departure boards, and the transport giant also plans to release further information on bus stops, routes, and timetables and schedules before 30 June, 2010.

pay with a tweet

Picture 3

In today’s world the value of people talking about your product is sometimes higher than the money you would get for it. ‘Pay with a Tweet’ is the first social payment system, where people pay with the value of their social network.

It’s simple, every time somebody pays with a tweet, he or she tells all their friends about the product. Boom.

e-commerce and social media promotion

Disney’s new Facebook application, Tickets Together, represents the company’s latest attempt to bridge e-commerce and social media promotion. The first test of the ticketing app is for the much hyped Toy Story 3. Although the animated film doesn’t open for another two-and-a-half weeks, Facebook members who download the app to buy tickets will also be encouraged to invite friends to make a purchase as well, says the NYT, which noticed that the app first appeared on the social net site on May 26.

GoTryitOn

An interesting insight into social opinions.
This site acts as a hub for people wanting opinions of clothing, for example asking for a vote on a dress to wear to a wedding. The main contributors seem to be women, but I did notice men commenting on one ladies dress.
Make your own assumptions, but the social behavior around wanting complete strangers opinions is very interesting.
